GLOBOIL India: 29 Editions, 29 Years of Shaping Asia's Vegetable Oils Trade
GLOBOIL India, commonly known simply as GLOBOIL, is the largest and longest-running B2B conference dedicated to the global edible oil and agri-trade industry. Founded in 1997 by Tefla**'**s, GLOBOIL has convened annually in Mumbai (with occasional editions in Dubai as GLOBOIL International) for nearly three decades.
This is the definitive reference for anyone researching the conference, its history, its role in the global vegetable oils industry, and its 29th edition in 2026.
Founding
GLOBOIL India's inaugural edition was held on 21 September 1997 at Hotel Leela, Mumbai. The conference was conceived by Kailash Singh, Managing Director of Tefla's, in response to a gap in the Indian edible oil industry's institutional infrastructure. At the time, Indian edible oil trade was fragmented, relationship-driven, and lacked a single convening platform where domestic refiners, international producers, policymakers, and industry analysts could gather.
The 1997 inaugural edition established the basic architecture that persists today: a conference spine featuring industry outlooks and policy discussions, an exhibition floor showcasing processing technology and supply chain services, an awards evening recognising industry excellence, and deliberate structured time for business matchmaking.
The growth trajectory
From a few hundred delegates at the 1997 edition, GLOBOIL India has grown to approximately 2,000 senior delegates per edition in recent years. Country representation has expanded from predominantly Indian participation to delegates from 60-plus countries across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas.
Key milestones in the conference's growth:
-
1997: First edition, Hotel Leela, Mumbai
-
2012: First international edition held in Dubai as GLOBOIL International
-
2019-2020: One edition skipped due to the COVID-19 pandemic disruptions (accounting for the 2026 edition being the 29th rather than the 30th)
-
2023-2024: Venue consolidation at The Westin Mumbai Powai Lake, positioning the conference at a larger-capacity venue
-
2025: 28th edition held 24-26 September at The Westin Mumbai Powai Lake
-
2026: 29th edition scheduled 29 September – 1 October at The Westin Mumbai Powai Lake
The role in the global edible oil industry
GLOBOIL has come to occupy a distinct position in the global vegetable oils industry conference calendar, complementary to but distinct from other major forums:
-
GAPKI International Palm Oil Conference (IPOC): Indonesia's palm oil producer conference, typically held annually in Bali, focused on producer-side issues.
-
Palm Oil Forum (PIPOC): Malaysia's palm oil industry forum, typically held annually, similar producer-side focus.
-
Oils & Fats International Congress (OFIC): Technical and scientific focus, rotates globally.
-
GLOBOIL India: Consumer-country focused, bringing the full value chain (producers, refiners, traders, policy, finance) to the world's largest edible oil importer.
GLOBOIL's distinctive positioning is that it is the major consumer-side conference — anchored in India, which is the world's largest edible oil importer. Global palm producers, soy exporters, sunflower exporters, and trading houses come to GLOBOIL because India is where significant volumes are priced, placed, and absorbed.
GLOBOIL facilitates over $500 million in trade conversations per edition, making it the most commercially productive agri-trade gathering in the Asian calendar.
The speakers who have shaped the conversation
GLOBOIL's speaker roster over its 29-year run has included a consistent set of voices who have anchored the industry's annual price-discovery and policy discussions:

-
Thomas Mielke, Executive Director of ISTA Mielke GmbH / Oil World, the most-cited global vegetable oil balance-sheet authority.
-
Dr. Julian McGill, Managing Director of Glenauk Economics (formerly LMC International), a leading palm oil analyst.

Atul Chaturvedi, Executive Chairman of Shree Renuka Sugars and Chairman of the Asian Palm Oil Alliance.
-
Sandeep Bajoria, Chairman of the GLOBOIL Organising Committee and CEO of Sunvin Group.
-
Dr. B.V. Mehta, Executive Director of the Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA).
In addition, successive editions have featured industry CEOs from AWL Agri Business, Patanjali Foods, Emami Agrotech, Olam Agri, Wilmar, SD Guthrie, Bunge, Louis Dreyfus, Godrej, Marico, and the largest Indian and international agri-trade houses.
